Unable to view model
« on: November 28, 2017, 08:20:03 AM »
Hello

I am trying to create a 3D model of a key chain. It's half the size of my thumb. I kept it on a small turn table and took 12 pictures assuming it will be enough. After uploading all the photos and applying masks for every photo separately, I aligned the photos.

These were my settings..
Accuracy = High
Generic preselection = tried with checked and unchecked
Key point limit = 40,000
Tie point limit = 1,000
Constrain features by mask = unchecked (background is still)
Adaptive camera model fitting = checked

I am getting nothing on my screen. All I can see is a few scattered points. I don't see my model. The cameras (blue squares) seem like they are stacked up in top. I saw a tutorial on YouTube where the cameras were around the object. In my case its nothing like that. Also, the number of tie points keep changing every time I align the photos. Sometimes it's 600, sometimes it's 300, 20, etc. I have no idea why this is happening. How do I rectify this? How do I get a good model? Do I need more photos? Is the lighting a problem? Reflections?

Hello prash319,

If you are using turntable scenario when the object is being rotated in front of the fixed camera position, it is necessary to mask out all the static background and use Constrain Features by Mask option in the Align Photos dialog. Otherwise the matching points related to the background would affect the alignment.

Yes. I did that. Do I need more photos? Or is something wrong with the object I have chosen?

I tried modelling with another object. Now I can see something. I have 25 pictures/cameras. Only 16 are aligned. How do I align the rest? Also, I am getting only half my object. And they are all scattered points. Nothing like the video tutorials. Do I need more pictures?
