Hi Gatto,

you can look at another page of Agisoft:
http://www.agisoft.ru/products/photoscan/performance/

I'm no pro, but with 3000$, I would by something like this:

a i7-980X hexacore processor

search a motherboard which can handle 24 GB of RAM and buy 24 GB of RAM

buy 2 GeForce GTX 480 graphic cards given that two of those fit into your motherboard into your motherboard

Hi Junk,

probably 2 geforce in Crossfire can speedup a lot the meshing operation, I was serching info about the possibility to use a multiprocessor motherboard with Seven 64 but I'm not a guru and I discover quite nothing.

Ram is really so important for the program? Actually I have a i5 with 4GB and does not appear to swap to disk a lot but what I see is that cpu fan run at maximum speed ..

the amount of RAM only limits the amount of photos you can process,

So, if you are sure you will not process more photos in the future than you do now, you can keep your RAM low (4 GB or 8GB)

to improve speed, I think the more cores the better, and also the speed of the cores matter. Therefore I think the i7-990X is one of the best options available now, it has 6 cores running at 3.46 GHz.

also hi-end videocards (e.g. geforce GTX590) can further improve speed with openCL. But the speed gain of the videocard must be higher than the speed loss of one core, because you will have to sacrifice one core for each graphics card you use for this purpose, as said somewhere in the manual.

So i need to assemble the pc.

This MB http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=270-WS-W555-A2&family=Motherboard Family&series=All Motherboards&sw=5 support 2 cpu, they say, can you please tell me how to complete the pc with video cards, ram CPUs, HD in order to havePhotoscan running faster ? I usually work with 20-25 photos (my main job is to reverse low relief in order to machine them into wood or stone).

Thanks for support.

Hi guys

I am considering to invest in the best PC to run our jobs. Mostly are aerial and the average amount are 500-700 photos by project, but we are aiming to run 1.000 to 2.000 at once, even 4.000...
And the most important thing: deliver fast product to our customers.
Figure the scenario: I flew today, I have highest precison GPS for telemetry. And my goal is to deliver to customer in 2-5 days, no longer!
So if you could set up a thing to run this what would be?
Our target to invest is about 10.000 US$, but the most important is the configuration.
If you have idea about MAC it will be nice too...

Cheers!

in your case you should orient on AMD technology, if want send me a email on muzeumhb at gmail.com
and will give info what config is the best. you will need a lot of memory, therefore is Intel not a very good opinion......

OK here is a ultimative config for the Photoscan, best price/performance from my long research......
AMD can install 48 cores and 512 GB ram and 8 GPUs,

its a AMD solution if you think is better with Intel then here with it. but basic system start at around 12.000 USD for system without CPU, RAM, GPU.......

http://www.supermicro.nl/Aplus/system/Tower/4042/AS-4042G-TRF.cfm

base without CPU, GPU and RAM cost around 1.800 USD.
configured with 2 CPUs
CPU - 2x6128 (8coresx2) - 2,0 GHz - 16 cores@ 32 GHz
RAM 16x8 GB - 128 GB
HDD 2x500 GB - 1 TB
cost around 5.500 USD

for the GPU is best the 590 GTX - 2GPUs in one slot
maximal in this board you can have 8GPUs - with PCI-E extenders (40 usd for one, need 2x)
price for the GPU is around 600-700 USD as i know

so best start with 2 CPUs, one 590GTX, and 128 GB RAM at around 9.000 USD without OS.

and remeber if Bulldozer get out you can put there 64 Cores with over 75 % more horse pover as a 48 core setup.

every GPU consume one core of CPU, so with intel you will have a lot smaller performance, and remeber, intel have even the 10core monster but with price 4.500 USD just for the CPU !!
sou a comparable equiped Intel cost around 40.000 USD. search jourself if dont believe.....

in next 6 months will buy something like this, for cultural heritage program......
