Elevation Differences Measurement Without Georeferencing
« on: April 23, 2018, 01:56:16 PM »
Hi everyone!

I created a model. But I didn't georeference it. I have no ground control point coordinates. The cameras are taken from short distance to ground with a simple camera (Nikon D5200). (about 1m) How can I measure the elevation differences between the points on the model.

best regards

Hi surveyorr,

If you don't have any reference information, than you cannot perform any measurements. Algorithms that are used in digital photogrammetry (e.g., SIFT) don't care about scale, hence if you don't have camera positions and/or markers and/or scale bars, you won't be able to measure anything.

Note that there is also an uncertainty/error in your photogrammetric reconstructions that depends on a range of factors (e.g., image quality, image overlap, GSD, marker or camera position error, ....).
