Incremental alignment
« on: June 24, 2023, 05:05:44 AM »
Hi my friends,

I have a set of some 2400 images that I have aligned in 2.0.2 with Keep key points checked. I then saved as a 1.8 compatible  psz. I sent this project  to a Work station with Agisoft 1.8 installed.

I then used incremental image alignment to add some 1000 extra images and alignment was successful. However the original point cloud or tie points vanished and only the new tie points created from the added images appear...

What is going wrong?

I had the same problem - did not find solution - first set of cameras and point cloud disappears.

Hello Paul,

Does the problem only occurs when you align photos in 2.0 and try incremental alignment feature in 1.8?
And do not have problems using 1.8 -> 1.8, 2.0 -> 2.0 and 1.8 -> 2.0?

Hello Alex,

I just tested it on 2.0.2 to 1.8.4 as Workstation does not have 2.0 installed....

I tried on 2.0.2 adding some 335 images to original 2400 images saved in psz (1.8 compatible) and did incremental alignment and got same result. It aligned the added images but lost the original tie points and just kept new tie points created....
attached is console output as well as screen capture for your review...

I'm observing the same behavior on 2.1.1, 2.1.0, and also just tested in 1.8.4 and 1.7.1 and it's the same with these versions. The original set of tie points seems to be lost even when "Keep key points" is checked and all other incremental alignment instructions are followed.

Hello djyoung,

Can you please specify the steps that you are following in 2.1 versions?

Hi Alexey -- sure:
  • in preferences/advanced, check "Keep key points"
  • Workflow/Add folder
  • Workflow/Align photos -- Accuracy Medium, Generic Preselection, Reference Preselection (Source), Key points 40,000, Tie points 4,000, exclude stationary tie points checked, adaptive fitting and guided matching unchecked
  • Workflow/Build DEM (source: tie points), File/Export DEM
  • Workflow/Add folder
  • Workflow/Align photos -- (same settings as above)
  • Workflow/Build DEM (source: tie points), File/Export DEM

Does this sound right to you? Please also see my recent post here (https://www.agisoft.com/forum/index.php?topic=16329.0), where I shared the image datasets I use in this workflow. Thank you for helping resolve this.
