Author Topic: Using orientation and references for pictures from other software (capturing rea  (Read 7183 times)

Hello, i'm using many software to get the best final result possible. Most of the time, the best is coming from acute3D, but not all the time. The two other i use are capturing reality and Agisoft Photoscan. I just need a final orthomosaic.

I get the place an orientation of eatch pictures from Capturing Reality , (X,Y,Z and rotation of the camera). I want to use it in Photoscan.

When i'm importing the text file in référence i get the localisation, but if i use 0 for Accuracy i dont have any align of image, and if i let like it is 10 m in accuracy, i dont have any orientation.

Can you help me ?

Hello doppelganger,

Do you mean that the camera orientation is already estimated in another application? You can use bundler.out format with Import Cameras option to load the estimated exterior and interior orientation information from another software, for example.

Yes, the camera orientation is alredy estimate, and  i'm impoting this estimation with the reference place. (cf pictures). But the result is not as i get in other software, the orientation is not good (not bad) but not very good, not enought to get veel orientate orthophoto.

Hello doppelganger,

According to the screenshot you are loading the coordinates of the camera locations and orientation angles. It wouldn't make cameras aligned to these values.

If you have precise information of the estimated camera exterior and interior orientation you need to use Import Cameras option (don't mix it with Import CSV dialog). Bundler.out format also allows to import the tie points.

I have tried your solution, it is working, but it is not as easy as just importing the coordinate and the orientation of the pictures, it is not possible to just import file like the one i have in screeshot ??? I'm doing that in Acute3d and it is perfect.

Hello doppelganger,

X,Y,Z, O,P,K file doesn't contain any calibration information. Or are you using undistorted images with it?

First, Thanks for your help.

I'm not using undistorted images, but, for exemple, i'm using this text files in acute3D, and i get the same align. Th software is calculation som adjustement, and the aérotriangulation, but the ground plan is exacly the same, like that the ortho are made in the same orientation.

There are two general matching-alignment modes in PhotoScan:
- image matching is performed by PhotoScan and the camera locations is estimated based on this information (by default the calibration parameters are also calculated by PhotoScan, but it an be disabled), The procedure is commonly run via Align Photos dialog,
- camera locations, orientation information and calibration data is imported to PhotoScan (for example, via Import Cameras option or using Python) and PhotoScan is calculating only matching points according to the provided information (Build Points operation), so neither exterior, nor interior orientation information is adjusted following this approach.

In principle, when the first approach is followed, you can load the reference information to the Reference pane (like you were doing it originally), specify the high accuracy values for camera location/orientation fields and optimize the alignment.
But I do not recommend to use "zero" accuracy values, as it could lead to the invalid results.

Hello doppelganger,

It is assumed that the values in the "camera accuracy" field correspond to the accuracy of the measurement device used. If you consider the values accurate, you can use something like 0.1 - 0.5 cm, for example.

If you wish to use exact alignment results from other applications, then you need to use Import Cameras feature, instead of matching the images in PhotoScan again and re-aligning the data.

Have you tried to use bundler.out export format from RC?
