Importing Cameras into PhotoScan
« on: February 26, 2018, 07:49:06 PM »
Hello Support Team,

I am having trouble importing cameras into PhotoScan. After adding photos to my chunk, I want to import custom camera location and calibration information instead of using PhotoScan's align tool. I have created an xml file using what I believe is the correct formatting to load the calibration information. The problem is, that only the position and orientation (tilt of the cameras) seems to be loaded in as when I click on camera calibration all of the parameters (cx, cy, k1, k2) have not loaded in properly and the values are all 0 in those categories. I have attached a copy of my camera calibration xml file.

Additionally, I tried loading the camera calibration and then manually entering the parameters that were not updated. The settings seemed to be saved but the projection of the markers I placed on the photos did not change position at all. This leads me to believe that even though the information was entered it wasn't loaded into the cameras as that would cause the markers to move to a more accurate position on the Model.

Please let me know if my formatting is correct or if there is some other solution to this problem. Let me know if you need more information from my side.

Thanks,
- Jay S

Hello Jay,

Can you send the project file in PSZ format to support@agisoft.com, so that we can try to import the xml file and see what might be an issue?

Do only calibration values not load or the exterior orientation also is not importing properly?
Best regards,

If by exterior location you mean the position and tilt of each camera in the system in 3D space then yes; the exterior location was loaded in correctly. Just the calibration information was not filled out.

I will send the PSZ file to the support email shortly.

Thanks,

Hello Alexey,

I have sent an email to the support website: #15088 Require assistance importing cameras with calibration information.
I was just checking in to see how much progress is being made on the problem, and if there is anything else I can provide in terms of information to help speed up the process.

Hello Alexey,

I am still having difficulties with getting accurate marker projections from the 2D images to the 3D model. I believe it is because I am not filling in the cx,cy,k1, and k2 values correctly. I know that the cx, cy locations are oriented with respect to the top left corner of the image as the origin with the positive x axis pointing towards the right side and the positive y axis pointing downwards. I am not sure If I can directly copy the distortion parameters into the system. Can you provide some clarification as to what I need to do with those values? If I am missing information, then can you please outline what exactly I am missing.

Thanks,
-Jay S
