Help with scanning bottom side of rock
« on: February 25, 2018, 12:22:18 AM »
Hi, I can't seem to find a way to scan the bottom side of objects like a small rock for example. I take shots all around from the sides and top, then I turn the rock around to view the bottom sides and take shots in the same way but Photoscan is only able to reconstruct the first series of shots where rock was shot from top. I had the same issue with a wood log. Can anyone help with this as this is rather critical for my scanning work! Thanks!

This tutorial I made some years ago might help. It requires the professional version.
Regards.

@JMR can you post a link to this tutorial? I am using the Standard version though.

Hello yoli,

If you mask the background on both image sets, then you can align all the images in the same chunk using Key point masking option (former "Constrain features by mask" in older releases). But you can also check the following tutorial describing the new Tie point masking feature:
http://www.agisoft.com/index.php?id=49
With it you should be able to align all the photos in the same chunk applying only a masks to the background on a couple of images.
