Create a GIF from 3D model
« on: January 13, 2017, 11:42:36 AM »
Hi guys,

We use to create with Photoscan 3d models and through a service we upload them online.

We would like to have a GIF  for every model in the preview screen before charging the 3d model.

So how could I create a "3D GIF" from my model?

Any ideas?

Thank you, waiting for some tips

What'd I'd do is create screenshots of your models from several angles and then put the matching photos in any available jpg to gif creator.
That way you'll end up with a gif showing your model from several angles, which shows its 3D properties.

I know of a couple applications that might help if you have lots of models, they will batch process files in a folder:
http://www.glc-player.net/doc.php?page=multiCaptures   (free)
http://www.mootools.com/plugins/us/3dbrowserpro/index.aspx  (low cost)

3DBrowser does not have any documentation showing a turntable animation directly from a 3D model, but it seems like the function is probably in there somewhere. (It can create animated GIFs from images, ant it can generate preview images from 3D models). You might ask on their forum ...

With GLC software I'm now able to take multi-shots and with an other different application I can create a GIF.

Is it possible to unify these 2 process as one?

Could one day Photoscan has this feature (create directly from the model a dynamic GIF?)

Thank you, so far!

Create a video of your model  (very simple and free: CloudCompare) and convert it, for example by using  gifs.com (free)

I've tried the GLC, it's kinda ok, but it has a ugly rendereing, and the time spent doing it considereing that is needed another program just to create a gif from the pics is really out of hand in my opinion.

I would like to suggest my prefered solution so far: Gifcam + microsoft mixed reality (it auto rotates!)

Just record the entire rotation cycle in gifcam. It's boring, but it would take the same or more time doing the GLC + gifmaker solution. Also the viewer has a neater rendering.

I have succefully created GIFs by uploading to Sketchfab and taking advantage of their experimental GIF-maker
