Photoscan export creates pillar of points
« on: December 06, 2018, 08:46:07 PM »
Hello,

I'm trying to export a point cloud from Photoscan and when I view it in Cloud Compare it looks good in a top-down view, but when I shift it it is actually a pillar of point stacks.  The scale is also very very small relative to the area surveyed.

See the attachments for some views of my cloud.  I'm working on a new machine for this project, so I don't know if there is some setting I've missed.  I tried exporting an old project that I know worked previously and had the same issue.

Thanks for any help!

Hello cwm,

Are you exporting points in WGS84 Lat/Long format?

I think that Cloud Compare doesn't support such representation and X, Y, Z units will be treated as equal in such case (for example, 54.56 degrees will be treated as 54.56 meters). Try to export the points either using Local Coordinates option or select a proper UTM projection in the Export Points dialog.

Yes I was, and that seemed to have solved it.  Thanks, Alexey!
