Control alignment quality and automate scaling step

Hello,

We'd like to suggest some improvements that could be very interesting for the next versions of Photoscan:

1. I think that it would be great to be able to control the quality of the photo alignment. Your photogrammetric model with the accurate lens distorsion calculation seems to be good, but i'm sometimes afraid to deal with a bad alignment of some cameras in the scene and there's no way to control it for the moment (for example a value of the RMS error for the position/orientation of each camera , like in Photomodeler).

2. An automation of the scaling step would be great too. We were wondering if it would be possible to implement a routine to automatically detect survey targets (like QR codes for example)  in order to switch the manual ground control points clicking on the 3D scene.

Thank you for suggestions.

We are planning some additional statistics information on photos.

And as for the coded targets, PhotoScan Pro currently support automatic coded target recognition (circular 12- and 16-bit targets) through Detect markers tool. After they are detected one can assign coordinates to each marker to define the coordinate system scale.

Hey Alexey,
could you please elaborate on the coded target recognition feature? How to build an implement them and such.  Also on the Detect Markers tool which is not documented either in the help or manual files.

Dear All,
I'm chiming in late to this thread. But want to emphasize that I'm looking for similar features.

I want to place markers, (printed from P-scan), in a scene, shoot the scene, have P-scan automatically detect the markers, confirm the distance inbetween the markers, and then generate metrics and correct scale from that point.

Where can you point a newbie for this topic?

Hello Marlin,

Then the steps should be the following:

- print markers (we recommend to use 12-bit targets and use the pages from the middle of the document),
- stick them in the scene,
- take photos,
- add images to PhotoScan,
- use Detect Markers option form Tools menu,
- check that marker positions were estimated correctly,
- align photos,
- create Scale Bars for each pair of markers with the known distance between them,
- input corresponding distances in the Ground Control pane and check on such scale bars,
- press Update button,
- perform other processing steps.

Actually, you can detect markers even after the photo alignment procedure.
