Point & Cloud from AgiSoft to NavisWorks
« on: October 22, 2018, 02:50:23 PM »
Hi,

We are photographing the construction site with a drone and our final softwere for review and compare site construction to 3D model is NavisWorks.

At the moment this is the workflow:

[1.Drone] ->.jpg-> [2.AgiSoft PhotoScan pro] ->.pts-> [3. Autodesk ReCap] ->.rcp-> [4. Autodesk NavisWorks]

Is it possible to cut step 3 preserving point & cloud colors?

I've tested different exporting settings and file formats but not successfully. Do you have any suggestion or experience with this?

Br,

Caetano

Hello Caetano,

Which import formats are accepted by NavisWorks?

Also are you selecting "Save Colors" option when exporting the point cloud from PhotoScan?

Hi Alexey,
Thanks for your reply.

NavisWorks accept a wide variety of file extensios. See there is a table on the link below:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/navisworks-products/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Supported-file-formats-and-applications-for-Autodesk-Navisworks-2009-to-2012.html

Yes I am selecting save colors and it is working well with this workflow.

[1.Drone] ->.jpg-> [2.AgiSoft PhotoScan pro] ->.pts-> [3. Autodesk ReCap] ->.rcp-> [4. Autodesk NavisWorks]

However the step 3. Autodesk ReCap is time consuming and probably not necessary, since we are doing drone site pictures every week and in the future every other day, speedup this workflow will be much appreciated. Would be much better to go from AgiSoft directly to NavisWorks.

Hello Caetano,

Maybe you can try to use ASCII PTS file for export from PhotoScan? (may be required to rename to .asc extension).

Hello Alexey,
Tried as you suggested, but it opens corrupted in navis. Does not work.

Thanks for the try, any other suggestion?
